HALLOWEEN PATTERNS
Grade 1D
St. Monica School

During Halloween, the children were learning about patterns in Math.  The children has many opportunities to experiment with patterns and to use a wide variety of materials (buttons, blocks, paper shapes, etc.) to make patterns.  We had spent a lot of time building, extending, transferring and translating patterns.  As a summary activity, the children has the opportunity to participate in a variety of "Halloween Pattern Centers."  They created a personal pattern book and had the opportunity to use a variety of Halloween stickers, stamps, shapes to create their patterns.  When the children had finished making their personal pattern book, they translated their patterns using numbers and letters or body actions (claps, snaps, taps, etc.).  It was a great way to incorporate our Math learning into our Halloween theme!
