We started our Halloween projects two weeks before Halloween. We were fortunate to have E. McAuley with us. She was an IPT student teacher from the University of Alberta. She assisted with many of the activities we did for this project. Halloween is an exciting time for children. When planning Halloween centres, I tend to focus on Math skills. There are so many books that use candy for Math activities, that Halloween is a perfect time to focus on that curricular area. One of the must logical choices is graphing activities. Many of the centres I have made focus on graphing, which of course naturally includes counting skills and number writing and reading. Of course Halloween isn't Halloween without the traditional Halloween pumpkin carving and party activities. We chose to have a pumpkin carving party on Sunday afternoon which allowed us to make it a family event. Finally, the house centre became Hazel's Haunted House of Books. This became a quiet reading area where children could look at a collection of Halloween related picture books. |
