Pumpkin Carving

Mrs. Hackman's Kindergarten Main Page

Sunday, October 24, 2004

A highly successful event was the Pumpkin Carving Party for families.  There were three rooms where the families could rotate through.  The gym was set up with three games. A hopscotch game, a jacks game using Halloween bouncing balls and Halloween shape rings for the jacks and whatever the third game was I can't remember I'll look it up. The classroom had food and the children could play the Halloween centres described in the previous pages with their siblings and parents.

The Art room was where the children could carve a pumpkin they brought from home.  One of the tasks before carving was to predict how many seeds their pumpkin had.  Then they were to count them.  This was recorded by the parents on a sheet and then displayed on our bulletin board. The children brought their pumpkins home for use on Halloween night.

The children thoroughly enjoyed this day.  The parents were pleased with the event and enjoyed playing the centres with their child.  It became an informal demonstration of learning where the child could teach the parents how to play the centres.
